how to measure for your glove size
We have received a number of questions about how to determine your correct glove size so we’ve decided to blog about that today.

Choosing the correct glove size is very important for our comfort and safety.  The correct size ensures we get the best performance from the gloves we purchase.

Australian Standards EN420 states that glove size is “the hand cirfumference measured around your palm from a point about 20mm about the crotch of your thumb but excluding the thumb”

On page 6 of ANSELL is an illustration that can easily help determine glove size.  Additionally, we’ve added the table below for our glove sizes.

We all suffer from bad skin days from time to time, but there are many tips and tricks you can use to get perfect skin naturally. To make spots and blemishes a thing of the past, check out these six tips for clear skin.

Reduce your skin’s contact to bacteria.

You may be surprised at how often your skin comes into contact with dirt and germs that can lead to acne. During the time you are asleep, your pillow comes into contact with makeup, skin oils and saliva, making it a breeding ground for bacteria that can worsen acne. Likewise, unwashed makeup brushes can spread bacteria to your skin. To minimize your skin’s contact to bacteria, make sure you wash makeup brushes every two weeks and change your pillowcase regularly. Also, avoid touching your face as much as possible and clean your phone with antibacterial wipes before making calls.

Cleanse your skin properly.

If you suffer from oily or acne-prone skin it can be tempting to over-cleanse your skin to dry out oils and kill bacteria. However, cleansing your skin too frequently or using harsh cleansers can dry out your skin, causing flakiness which can clog pores. It can also cause your skin to produce more oils to compensate. Instead, wash your skin twice a day with a gentle, PH-neutral cleanser so as not to destroy the acid mantle of the skin, which protects against moisture loss and bacteria. Remove the cleanser with a muslin cloth to lightly exfoliate the skin.

Sip spearmint tea.

Acne is generally caused by hormones called androgens, which can over-stimulate the sebaceous glands leading to oily skin, blocked pores and spots. To counteract these effects, oral contraceptives are often prescribed to women suffering from acne. However, while beneficial for clearing spots, these contraceptive pills can have inconvenient and even dangerous side effects. Luckily, research suggests that spearmint tea has similar anti-androgen properties, which could help reduce acne and hormone imbalances in women.

Use spot-fighting makeup.

We all know what it’s like to have a bad skin day when you just want to hide away under layers of makeup. However, while makeup can temporarily disguise the look of spots, it can also make the problem much worse. For confidence-boosting coverage that won’t cause flare-ups, make sure you opt for non-comedogenic makeup that won’t clog pores. To further increase the spot-fighting powers of your cosmetics, try using mineral makeup containing zinc oxide, which will fight against acne-causing bacteria.

Change your diet.

Eating a balanced diet with plenty of nutrients and antioxidants is one of the key factors behind beautiful looking skin. However, there are also certain foods you can cut back on or eat more of in order to help get rid of spots. Research suggests that dairy is a major precursor of acne for many people due to the hormones it contains. Plastic water bottles and food packaging can also leach out chemicals which can lead to hormone imbalance. Swap packaged foods for fresh, skin-friendly produce including lots of fruit and vegetables and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Find ways to deal with stress.

Research findings published in the journal Archives of Dermatology suggest that high stress levels can significantly worsen acne. It is thought that this may be due to the fact that stress stimulates the production of hormones which stimulate oil production in the skin’s sebaceous glands. Stress is also thought to instigate the release of chemicals which can lead to inflammation. To help keep your skin clear and spot-free, try to find healthy ways to deal with stress such as exercise, meditation or pampering. Try to talk through problems with someone else as well to help relieve any worries.

Even the most basic first-aid knowledge can help save lives

We dedicate the rest of this week to highlighting the importance of knowing basic first-aid tips.  The knowledge of what to do in every situation can spell the difference between life and death.  It isn't too late to learn how to properly administer first-aid so try not to leave it out and not wait for the time when you would finally need it.

We at Livshop, being an online shop for medical supplies and consumable items among other things realize how important first-aid is.  So we've come up with the following tips to help you get started.

We'll focus more on first-aid at home as that's where most instances requiring this knowledge occur the most. Family safety begins at home too, so please take a moment to read the tips we've outlined below.

1. Small cuts or scratches. Wash the injured area thoroughly and apply ointment. Use a sterile gauge to cover the area keep in place by plaster tape.

2. Burns. Classified by degree, use the following observable indicators to identify it correctly.

First Degree Burns are oftentimes indicated by a reddened skin. Softly apply petroleum jelly or any other clean oily substance like baby oil on the affected area and try not to rub too hard

Second Degree Burns is characterized by an injured outer layer of the skin often resulting to an appearance of blisters.  Pop the blister with a sterilized needle, apply petroleum jelly on the surrounding area, and then have it checked by a physician.

A third degree burn is characterized by the outer layer of the skin extremely burnt or injured.  This should always be treated by a doctor.

3. Insect bites or stings. Bug bites from nasty critters can cause inconvenient itching or even pain.  Apply ammonia or moistened baking soda to the area to alleviate the discomfort

4. Foreign body in the eye. This can be extremely uncomfortable. Look closely for the foreign body by drawing your eyelid up then use a clean cotton bud to remove it.  You may also try flushing the foreign body out by opening your eye under a basin of water.

5. Fainting. Try not to move the fainted person around too much. Lay the patient down with feet higher than the head, sprinkle cold water on the face or hold a bottle of smelling salt under the patient's nose.

6. Abdominal pain. Put a sick person to bed. Call a doctor. Do not give food or laxative if the cause is not known.

7. Boils and pimples. Never prick them! Facilitate rapid ripening by applying a clean dressing over the swollen area. Wait till each break and wipe puss off with a sterile gauge. Apply dressing after.

8. Headache. Allow patient to rest. Aspirin for occasional headaches can lessen the pain.

9. Toothache. Put cotton moistened with alcohol or tooth drops in the cavity. An ice cap or a bottle of very cold water against the jaw on the side of the painful tooth is helpful.

Apart from the tips mentioned above, another important thing to remember is to always keep a well-stocked first-aid kit and other basic medical supplies in your home.  Always keep your kit completely stocked by doing monthly inventory so you don’t run out of anything when you need them.

Remember to remain calm when attending to an injured member of the family. Always keep your doctor's number with you handy anytime so you can immediately call them for any assistance.

Also check out our First-Aid supplies inventory sale for great discounts on the several first aid items.  This would be a perfect opportunity for you to re-check your inventory and stock up on what you need.

Building your Home First-Aid Kit is a breeze

Building your own home first-aid kit? Here's what you will be needing.

Previously, we discussed about the importance of home first-aid as well as some of the most basic yet important tips when dealing with minor scrapes at home.
Today, we’ll work on building our own home first-aid kit and its most essential contents.
Most Important Contents
The items listed here should be the most important things that we need to add in the kit we’re building. Home first-aid kits should contain supplies that should be able to treat minor injury on the get go. No first-aid kits should be without any of the following
1. First-Aid manual – this is very important as this will serve as your guide in administering the correct first-aid procedure required in a particular situation.
2. sharp scissors – for cutting bandages/gauzes into strips
3. medical gloves – to ensure you don’t get cuts/scrapes infected
4. safety pins – for holding bandages/gauzes in place
5. tweezers – for removing splinters
6. alcohol wipes
7. thermometer
8. clean blankets
9. flashlight with fresh batteries
10. emergency contact number
11. soap
For Cuts/Scrapes
1. antiseptic wipes
2. sterile gauze pads in different sizes
3. adhesive tapes and bandages
4. antibiotic ointment
Burns
1. hot/cold packs
2. burn gels or aloe vera creams
3. ibuprofen – to ease the pain
4. sterile gauzes – to prevent blisters from getting in contact with clothing and prevent accidental breaking
Strains/Sprains
1. triangular bandages
2. elastic bandages
3. splint wood
With these supplies gathered ahead on time and strategically place in your preferred area of the house, you should now be able to attend to any emergency at a moments notice.
The beauty of trying to build your own home first-aid kit is that you can choose to add more supplies as you see necessary. Purchased kits from the local drugstores normally come with only the most basic contents so it’s a good idea to build your own.
Try to store separate kits inside your home and another one on your car. It’s also advisable that you pack basic supplies if you travel just to be on the safe side.
The items included in the list are just suggested supplies. Read up and feel free to add your own item. Let your creativity be your own guide.

So you're thinking about getting a tattoo...

Found this wonderful article from the net and since it ties up very closely with our ongoing Tattoo Extravaganza, we're re-blogging this for you guys! Credits go to hubpages and http://www.first-tattoo-designs.com

1. A tattoo lasts forever. Don't rush into your design decision and end up with a design you will regret. Join some online tattoo galleries to get ideas, and don't make an impulse decision. When in doubt, just slow down a little before you get the actual ink.

2. If this is going to be your first tattoo, don't go big. Small tattoos can hold just as much personal expression as a large piece. Also, with only a little 'skin in the game', small tattoos are easier to work around later if you have a change of heart and need a cover-up.

3. If you are underage, or not ready to make the permanent commitment, consider a temporary tattoo. Henna tattoos can give you an idea of how you will feel about your design and will wash off in a month or so. When you join a tattoo design gallery, you can even print out the designs and have them converted to a temporary tattoo to try out.

4. If any of your friends have tattoos, talk to them to get an idea of how getting a tattoo was for them. Ask them questions... How much did it hurt? Who did your tattoo? Was the tattoo shop professional and clean? It's always best to talk to someone you know and trust.

5. There are some consequences of tattos you may not have known: In some states, to control the spread of hepatitis you cannot donate blood for at least a year after getting a tattoo. There are exceptions to this rule in states that have certain hygyine regulations for the tattoo industry. If you think you may donate blood in the next year, do some homework.
