Residents in north west coastal communities are being advised to
prepare now for the arrival of a cyclone.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a code blue alert for category
three cyclone Narelle, which is about 760 kilometres from Karratha.
The alert is current for communities between Whim Creek and Mardie,
including Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Point Samson and Wickham.
The bureau is predicting Narelle will be upgraded to a category four
system this afternoon.
Duty Forecaster, Noel Puzey, says Narelle has not had any significant
impact on the coast yet.
"There are some winds and some increasing thunderstorm activity
expected through that region today," he said.
"But it's still a very very long way from the coast.
"It's going to take another 24 hours to start
to have a strong influence on the West Pilbara coast."[1]
